The toner cartridges are identical in size, and the dimensions can be compared to that of a videotape. Toner cartridges are inserted from the front side of the printer, and thanks to the fool-proof design you cannot put the wrong color in the wrong slot.

The CLP-500 has USB and LPT ports located on a noticeable place. Above them is the plug for optional LAN interface, still higher is the reserved spot for Wi-Fi interface. On the control board, there is a slot for an optional DIMM-memory extension module.

It's quite unusual to discover a duplex unit in the package box of a color printer of this price range. However, it's worth mentioning that this printer feature a rather high speed in double-sided documents output.

The Samsung engineers have taken care of detailed and intuitive control panel to manage the printer. In most cases it does save time on control and management operations.

Every time it's getting ever harder to comment on text printing quality of modern printers. The reason is there nothing left to achieve: even a 4x zoom of a page printed in most used mode - the 600 dpi - leaves no doubt the quality is perfect.

The quality difference in 1200 dpi is obvious, but you can hardly call it critical. When printing texts, the 600 dpi resolution mode is just enough.

This is a color laser printer, and it, theoretically, can produce photographs, too. Nonetheless, don't expect of CLP-500 what you would expect of an inkjet photo printer, those would be the printers for different purposes. However, the Samsung CLP-500 is likely the first color laser printer to produce what can conditionally be called a color photo on matte paper.

Another thing this model deserves mentioning is an uncommon consistency of toner coverage of media. For instance, there are no glossy reflexes in places where black toner is heavily applied.

Interestingly, when office paper is used, the toner is imprinted into medium in such a way, that the coarse relief of the paper (compared to other special media) becomes only a plus. Perhaps, it is a matter of those fine particles of toner. Anyways, the quality of toner fixing deserves all credit.
